Sadleir House respectfully acknowledges the sacred land we meet on, and its traditional occupants. Sadleir House is located in Nogojiwanong (an Anishnaabe word for "place at the end of the rapids") where there are two active Treaties.
Treaties established how we share and develop the land and include everyone.
Treaty 20 (also known as the Rice Lake Purchase) was signed in 1818 by the Michi Saagiig (which is now known as Hiawatha First Nation, Curve Lake First Nation, and the Mississauga of Scugog Island First Nation).
The Williams Treaty was signed in 1923 and is considered one of the worst Treaties to exist because it took away the rights from the Chippewa (now known as Beausoleil, Georgina Island, and Rama First Nations) and Michi Saagiig to hunt, fish, and trap.
